Cancer Care at Home

Practical support through treatment and beyond

Cancer care at home means practical help through treatment, recovery and everything around them: the fatigue after chemotherapy, the appointments, the meals nobody feels like cooking, and the ordinary life that carries on regardless. Almost 3.5 million people are living with cancer in the UK, according to Macmillan, and most of that living happens at home. Our carers support families across Hertfordshire through it, calmly and without fuss.

Why Home Matters During Cancer Treatment

Treatment takes enough away without giving up home comforts too. Between hospital visits, home is where strength rebuilds: rest without a ward around you, food you actually fancy, your own bed on the hard days. Support at home protects the energy treatment demands and the normality that keeps spirits up.

Support Shaped Around Treatment Cycles

Chemotherapy and radiotherapy come in cycles, and the hard days are often predictable. We plan visits around them: more help in the days after treatment, lighter touch in the better weeks, transport-day support where families cannot cover every appointment. The plan flexes as treatment changes, because treatment always changes.

Working Alongside Your Cancer Team

Your oncology team, specialist nurses and GP lead the clinical side. We support daily life around it, and with your agreement we liaise with them, so what happens at home fits the treatment plan. Our carers notice and report the things that matter between appointments: eating, energy, mood, and anything that needs a professional eye sooner rather than later.

Cancer Care May Include:

  • Extra help in the days after chemotherapy or radiotherapy
  • Meals that adapt to changed appetite and taste
  • Help with washing, dressing and personal care when energy is low
  • Medication support around complex regimes
  • Housekeeping and errands that protect rest
  • Companionship through the anxious stretches
  • Respite so family carers can breathe
  • A calm handover to palliative care at home if the road turns that way

Support at Every Point of the Road

Through active treatment

Cycle-aware support: heavier help after treatment days, lighter in recovery weeks, and reliable cover for the practical load so energy goes to getting through it.

In recovery

Support steps back as strength returns, at your pace, with help kept for the tasks that still take too much out of you.

Living with cancer long term

Where cancer becomes something lived with, care settles into a sustainable rhythm, with overnight care or live-in care where more cover helps.

If treatment ends

Where the focus turns to comfort, our end of life care at home continues with the same familiar faces, and NHS continuing healthcare fast track can fund care quickly. Nothing about the team around you needs to change.

Cancer Care FAQs

How much does cancer care at home cost?

Care visits start from 30 minutes, from £34, with no hidden fees, and every family receives a written quote before anything begins. Regulated home care is VAT exempt. Where needs are complex or the outlook is short, NHS continuing healthcare, including its 48-hour fast track, can fund care in full.

Can visits flex around chemotherapy cycles?

Yes, deliberately so. We plan more support for the days after treatment and lighter cover in better weeks, and the plan moves when the treatment plan moves.

Can carers help when eating becomes difficult?

Yes. Changed appetite and taste are common through treatment. Our carers cook around what actually appeals, keep portions realistic, and follow any guidance from your team on nutrition.

Do you support people living alone through treatment?

Yes. For someone facing treatment alone, a consistent carer is both practical help and a steady presence: someone who notices how you really are, not just how you say you are.

Can the same team continue into palliative care?

Yes, and this matters to many families. If the focus turns to comfort, the same familiar carers continue through our end of life care at home, so nobody new arrives at the hardest point.

Do you work with Macmillan and specialist nurses?

With your agreement we liaise with your oncology team, specialist nurses and GP, and we are glad to work alongside the support charities such as Macmillan provide, so everything pulls together.

How quickly can cancer care start?

The right timing depends on your situation and on matching you with a suitable carer. We will talk through your needs and explain realistic timescales when you contact us, so you know what to expect.

Do we have to commit long term?

No. There are no long-term or fixed-term contracts, and every package carries our 90-day risk-free guarantee: you can cancel at any time.
