Our Carers: The People Behind Your Care

Who will be in your home?
It is the question underneath every other question families ask us, and it deserves a straight answer. Our carers are chosen for kindness as much as skill, complete a DBS check before they care for anyone, receive full training with ongoing support, and work under our training, supervision and oversight, with our domiciliary care team directly employed by us and a registered manager accountable for the quality of every visit. Then we match carefully, keep the team around you small, and introduce your carer before care begins.
This page explains each of those steps properly, because trust should be built on detail, not slogans.

How We Choose Our Carers
We recruit for character first. Skills can be taught and strengthened, but the warmth, patience and reliability that make someone feel safe in your home cannot be trained into a person who does not have them. We look for people who see care as a calling, and we would rather leave a position open than fill it with the wrong person.
Every carer completes a DBS check before they begin, and experience and training in care count in an applicant’s favour. As a family-run agency, the people we take on are people we are personally happy to send into the homes of families who trust us.
Every carer receives full training and ongoing support, whether they arrive experienced or new to care. Training is not a one-off induction: support continues throughout, because good care depends on carers who feel confident, backed and never out of their depth.
Our domiciliary care team is directly employed by us, and however your care is arranged, every carer works to our standards under our supervision: honest feedback, ongoing support and a registered manager accountable for the quality of what happens in your home.
If you know someone who would make a wonderful carer, our careers pages explain what we look for and how we train.
We take time to match each client with a carer whose personality, approach and values align with their own, because a good match builds trust, eases daily life and lays the foundation for consistent, confident care. For couples, the match has to fit two personalities, not one, and we plan for that deliberately.
You can meet your carer before care begins, and many families find that first introduction is the moment everything settles. From there, we keep your team small and consistent: familiarity is most of what makes care feel right, and we protect it.
Starling Homecare is registered with the Care Quality Commission, and a registered manager is accountable for the quality of your care. Our domiciliary care team is directly employed by us, every arrangement is overseen by us from start to finish, and when you raise something, one organisation owns the answer.
That is the real difference between a regulated agency and an introduction agency or a privately arranged carer, where checks, cover and employment responsibilities sit with the family. Our guide to the questions to ask any provider sets out exactly what to check, including of us.

Common Questions About Our Carers
Are your carers DBS checked?
Yes. Every carer completes a DBS check before they care for anyone, alongside our own recruitment checks, and we recruit for character as deliberately as we check backgrounds.
Are your carers employed by you or self-employed?
Our domiciliary care team is directly employed by Starling Homecare. However your care is arranged, every carer works under our training, supervision and oversight, with a registered manager accountable for quality, and nothing about standards or cover is left to you.
Will we have the same carer every time?
Wherever possible, yes. You will see a small, consistent core team, because familiarity is most of what makes care feel right. Occasional changes happen with illness or holiday, but we keep your team as stable as possible.
Can we meet the carer before care starts?
Yes. We can introduce your carer before care begins, and many families find that first meeting is what settles the decision.
What happens when our carer is ill or on holiday?
We arrange cover from within your small team wherever possible, so the face at the door is still a familiar one, and we tell you in advance rather than surprising you on the morning.
What training do your carers have?
Full training with ongoing support, whether they arrive experienced or new to care, and the training continues throughout rather than stopping at induction.
