FND Care at Home

Support built around a condition that changes day to day
If you or someone in your family is living with functional neurological disorder, we can arrange regulated care at home across St Albans, Harpenden, Welwyn Hatfield, Hemel Hempstead and the surrounding Hertfordshire villages. FND symptoms are real. They are a problem with how the nervous system is functioning, not something a person is imagining, and care at home should reflect that. Our carers support daily life around symptoms that change from day to day, with a small, familiar team and a care plan built for the reality of FND.
Why Home Matters with FND
FND can be an isolating diagnosis. Many families tell us the hardest part is not the symptoms themselves but feeling that others do not understand them. Home keeps the routines, surroundings and pacing that make fluctuating symptoms easier to live with, supported by carers who already know what a difficult day looks like for you.

Built Around Fluctuation, Not Against It
An FND care plan cannot assume every day is the same. Weakness, tremor, fatigue, sensory changes and functional seizures can vary widely between days, so we plan for the spread of days, building in pacing, rest and flexibility, and agreeing in advance what support looks like when symptoms flare.
Care That Adapts as FND Changes
Many people with FND improve with the right support, and every person’s experience is different. We review support regularly, stepping visits up during difficult periods and back as things settle. Where someone experiences functional seizures, sometimes called non-epileptic attacks, we record with the family and any treating team how episodes present and what response is agreed, so carers respond calmly and consistently.

FND Care May Include:
- Help with washing, dressing and personal care, paced to the day you are having
- Support with mobility and moving safely around the home
- Help with medication routines
- Meal preparation, housekeeping and everyday practical support
- Companionship and support to keep up activities, interests and community life
- Support with pacing, daily structure and fatigue management as agreed in your plan
- Respite visits that give family carers a proper break
- Longer visits, overnight support or full live-in care where needs are greater
Support That Tracks the Condition
When help is occasional
Light support that protects energy for the things that matter: shorter visits for personal care, meals, errands and a steady eye on how you are doing.
When help is regular
Daily or twice-daily visits shaped around your own symptom pattern, with the same small team so nothing has to be explained from the beginning each time.
When needs are greater
Longer visits, overnight support or full live-in care, planned with your family and, with your consent, alongside your treating team.
Working alongside the NHS
Diagnosis and treatment sit with NHS neurology and specialist rehabilitation teams. Hertfordshire families in the east of the county also have a specialist NHS FND service at the Danesbury Neurological Centre in Welwyn. Our role is the day-to-day care and support at home that helps someone live well between and alongside their treatment, and we are used to fitting care around therapy and rehabilitation appointments.

FND Care FAQs
How much does FND care at home cost?
Care visits start from 30 minutes, from £34, with no hidden fees, and every family receives a written quote before anything begins. Regulated home care is VAT exempt.
Can the amount of care change week to week?
Yes, within an agreed plan. FND fluctuates, so support is planned to flex with it: visits can step up during a difficult spell and back as things settle, without starting again from scratch.
Do your carers understand fatigue and invisible symptoms?
Yes. We start from the position that FND symptoms are real, and we plan around fatigue deliberately, timing visits for low-energy points and saving your effort for what matters to you.
Can you support younger adults with FND?
Yes. FND often begins in working age, and support at home is shaped around work, family and life, not an older person’s template.
Do you work with NHS teams and case managers?
Yes, with your agreement. We liaise with your GP, neurology and community rehabilitation teams so care at home fits the clinical plan. We also take referrals from case managers and professional deputies and can build a consistent care team around one client.
What happens when symptoms flare?
Support steps up quickly: more visits or longer ones, more hands-on help, and clear communication with you and your family. As things settle, support steps back at your pace.
How quickly can FND care start?
The right timing depends on your situation and on matching you with a suitable carer. We will talk through your needs and explain realistic timescales when you contact us.
Do we have to commit long term?
No. There are no long-term or fixed-term contracts, and every package carries our 90-day risk-free guarantee: you can cancel at any time.
