Job Description
Care Supervisor
A premium homecare service, and a team looked after to the same standard.
£25,500 to £27,500 a year, plus mileage at the HMRC approved rate of 55p per mile and a wellbeing package paid for in full by us: your own 24/7 private GP, counselling, physiotherapy, life coaching and over 1,500 everyday discounts. Full time, 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Permanent. Based at our St Albans office and out in the community across our visiting areas.
Starling Homecare is a growing, family run, independently owned homecare provider in St Albans, bringing good old fashioned values back into care. We are building the service that families in Hertfordshire ask for by name: the carer who turns up when they said they would, knows the client by name and by habit, and does the small things properly. Our founders spent more than a decade building and running an award-winning homecare service in this county before starting Starling Homecare, and we hold high standards because people deserve the best.
We believe the people who deliver that standard deserve it too. So we give our team a proper wellbeing package: a private GP when you need one, someone to talk to when you need that, and support for your health and your everyday life, paid for by us, in full.
We are CQC registered and provide visiting care across St Albans, Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead and Welwyn Hatfield, and live-in care across Hertfordshire.
The role
As Care Supervisor, you are part of the link between our office and the care our clients receive at home. You will spend much of your week out in the community: meeting new clients, undertaking initial assessments, reviewing care plans, and supporting and mentoring our carers. You will work alongside the Senior Care Supervisor and the Care Manager, and with our clients and their families, to keep standards high and put things right quickly when something needs attention. We are growing, and we are committed to supporting as many people as possible across Hertfordshire to receive high quality care at home. We are family run, so you will be supported from your first day, in a team that takes learning seriously and backs its people to develop.
As Care Supervisor you will:
- Hold initial client meetings and undertake initial assessments, so care starts safely and well
- Carry out client care plan reviews and keep care plans and records up to date
- Introduce carers to new clients and help new packages of care start well
- Carry out spot checks and observations of care in clients' homes
- Mentor and support carers, particularly those new to the team
- Listen to feedback from clients and families and pass it on so things are put right quickly
- Cover care visits when the service needs it
- Take your share of the on-call rota
- Help maintain compliance with CQC standards and our own procedures

Where this role can go
We are an expanding group. Demand for what we do is high, and we are planning continued expansion throughout Hertfordshire, with new offices to follow this one. If you want to be an excellent Care Supervisor and stay one, there is a proper long-term role here for you. If you have the ambition and the ability to go further, Senior Care Supervisor and, in time, Deputy Care Manager roles will open up as we grow, and we will back the people who want them with the support and development to get there.
What we ask of you
There will be times when we ask for flexibility: an early start, a late finish, or a weekend when the service needs it. That is part of supporting as many people as possible across Hertfordshire to receive high quality care at home, and it works both ways. The people who give it are rewarded for it: paid properly, looked after through our wellbeing package, and backed with real development and career opportunities as we grow and new offices open. We are looking for people who want to be part of that mission with us.
Who we are looking for
In how you work, you are kind, observant and steady. You take pride in doing the small things properly, and you enjoy helping other carers to do the same.
What you will need
Essential: experience of delivering care in people's own homes; confidence with care plans, medication support and record keeping; clear, professional communication; a willingness to mentor others; full UK driving licence and your own car; right to work in the UK.
Desirable: a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in health and social care; experience of spot checks or supervising others; business insurance if using your car for work.
This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. We are not accepting agency applications or enquiries at this time.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and walks of life. What matters most is your values, your reliability, and your heart for care.
